Uruguay-Korea Republic 2:1

Luis Suarez struck twice as Uruguay beat Korea Republic 2-1 in Port Elizabeth to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1970.

USA-Ghana 1:2

Asamoah Gyan scored three minutes into extra time to secure a historic place in the FIFA World Cup™ quarter-finals for Ghana after a dramatic 2-1 victory over USA in Rustenburg.

Day 15 of 2010 FIFA World Cup

Portugal-Brazil 0:0

Portugal joined Brazil in the Round of 16 as Group G runners-up after the teams played out a hard-fought, if at times ill-tempered goalless draw in Durban.

Korea DPR-Côte d’Ivoire 0:3

Côte d’Ivoire ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Korea DPR in Nelspruit, but Portugal’s draw against Group G winners Brazil confirmed the African team’s elimination.

Chile-Spain 1:2

Goals from David Villa and Andres Iniesta earned Spain a 2-1 win over ten-man Chile and a last-16 meeting with Portugal, while the losers also made it through despite defeat.

Switzerland-Honduras 0:0

Switzerland’s bid to reach the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup™ ended in Bloemfontein as they failed to dispose of Honduras in a frustrating goalless draw.

Denmark-Japan 1:3

Japan made history by reaching the Round of 16 for the first time on foreign soil, eliminating Denmark in the process with a 3-1 win in Rustenburg.

Cameroon-Netherlands 1:2

The Netherlands maintained their 100 per cent record in Group E with a 2-1 win over Cameroon in a match which saw Arjen Robben make a successful comeback from injury.

Slovakia-Italy 3:2

Slovakia held on for a dramatic 3-2 victory over Italy at Ellis Park that sent them into Round of 16 and eliminated Marcello Lippi’s world champions.

Paraugay-New Zealand 0:0

Paraguay finished top of Group F following a scoreless draw with New Zealand in Polokwane that sent the undefeated All Whites home with their heads held high.

Day 13 of 2010 FIFA World Cup

Slovenia-England 0:1

A lone goal from Jermain Defoe proved enough for England to edge past Slovenia in a tough contest and advance to the Round of 16, while the result left the Slovenians heartbroken.

USA-Algeria 1:0

An injury-time winner from Landon Donovan in Pretoria sent USA into the FIFA World Cup™ knockout rounds as Group C winners, as Algeria bowed out of the tournament.

Ghana-Germany 0:1

Germany edged Ghana 1-0 to win Group D and secure a meeting with England, while their victims also advanced to the Round of 16, where they will face USA.

Australia-Serbia 2:1

Australia hit second-half goals from Tim Cahill and Brett Holman to leap Serbia in the Group D standings, but were still eliminated on goal difference by Ghana.

Mexico-Uruguay 0:1

A Luiz Suarez header proved enough for Uruguay to beat Mexico 1-0 and finish top of Group A, but the result also proved sufficient for the losers to advance.

France-South Africa 1:2

South Africa gave everything to try and stay in their own FIFA World Cup™ but in the end their victory was in vain as they and France both exit the competition.

Nigeria-Korea Republic 2:2

An up-and-down thriller in Durban eventually ended in a 2-2 draw between Korea Republic and Nigeria, sending the Asians into a last-16 meeting with Uruguay.

Greece-Argentina 0:2

Argentina’s two Martins - Demichelis and Palermo - were on target as Diego Maradona’s side beat Greece 2-0 to finish top of Group B and set up a last-16 duel with Mexico.

Portugal-Korea DPR 7:0

Portugal turned on the style to thrash Korea DPR 7-0 at Green Point Stadium and take a huge step towards a place in the Round of 16.

Chile-Switzerland 1:0

Substitute Mark Gonzalez gave Chile a 1-0 victory in Group H over a dogged Switzerland side who played the final hour of the match with ten men.

Spain-Honduras 2:0

David Villa scored twice but missed a penalty as Spain bounced back from defeat by Switzerland with a 2-0 victory over Group H rivals Honduras at Ellis Park.

Paraguay- Slovakia 2:0

Enrique Vera and Cristian Riveros scored fine goals to earn Paraguay three points against Group F rivals Slovakia in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

New Zealand-Italy 1:1

New Zealand caused the biggest shock so far in South Africa by holding Italy to a 1-1 draw, Vincenzo Iaquinta’s penalty cancelling out Shane Smeltz’s early goal.

Brazil-Côte d’Ivoire 3:1

Brazil booked their place in the last 16 with a game to spare after a convincing 3-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire although they lost Kaka to a late red card.

Australia took an early lead against Ghana in Rustenburg, but after having Harry Kewell sent off, were forced to hold out for a 1-1 draw in Group D.

Netherlands-Japan 1:0

Wesley Sneijder’s second-half strike earned the Netherlands a narrow 1-0 win over a highly disciplined Japan side at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Cameroon-Denmark 1:2

Dennis Rommedahl hit a second-half winner as Denmark came back from a goal down to beat Cameroon 2-1 in Pretoria and eliminate the Indomitable Lions.

Slovenia-USA 2:2

Coach’s son Michael Bradley scored the 82nd-minute equaliser as USA retrieved a 2-0 half-time deficit to earn a deserved draw with Group C rivals Slovenia.

England-Algeria 0:0

Algeria held England to a goalless draw in the Group C encounter in Cape Town, leaving both sides still in with a shout of qualification for the last 16.

Germany-Serbia 0:1

Milan Jovanovic’s first-half strike earned Serbia a 1-0 victory over a Germany side who lost Miroslav Klose to a red card and saw Lukas Podolski miss a penalty.
